Research Group Programmes

The Krishnan-Ang Research Group Programmes are targeted at exceptional mid-career academics looking to pursue ground-breaking fundamental research in their own lab.

The program includes programmatic funding for a Group Leader, together with a number of post-doctoral researchers and PhD research assistants. Funding is typically secured for a period of 5 years. Current programs are recruiting for positions in cancer research at Cambridge University.

We are currently recruiting for two groups leaders (Krishnan-Ang Distinguished Scholar) to run their own labs in the area of cancer biology. Applicants will be ambitious researchers whose science will complement the existing world-class research programmes at Cambridge while bringing a clear focus to the prevention, biology, detection and treatment of cancers. Candidates will be ideal for those with 3-5 years of post-doctoral experience, distinctive research achievements and a cutting-edge research plan for the next 5 years.

Funding includes full salary support for the group leader for 5 years plus funding for postdoctoral research associates, research assistants, PhD students and consumables for the early years of the 5-year award.

The two focus areas of research will be in Urological Cancer and Haematological Cancers.

More details on applications will be available on the Cambridge University website shortly.

Why be a Krishnan-Ang Distinguished Scholar?

In addition to the funding provided there are further benefits to the programme:

  • Affiliation with Trinity College
  • Pastoral support and guidance from Professor Greg Hannon FRS

Professor Hannon is the director of the CRUK Cambridge Institute at Cambridge, fellow of Trinity College, director of cancer genomics at the New York Genome Center and an adjunct professor at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. In 2017 Professor Hannon was awarded a £20 million Cancer Grand Challenges award to create an interactive 3D map of cancer. In 2018, it was announced Prof Hannon would guide the Functional Genomics Centre, a collaboration between Cancer Research UK and AstraZeneca

Senior Postdoctoral Researcher

In 2016, we established the post of Krishnan-Ang Senior Postdoctoral Researcher to provide a pioneering early-career researcher with the funding and freedom to pursue transformational cancer research over a five-year period. The post also included an affiliation with Trinity College and associated benefits. On the successful completion of the post, the programme has now been expanded within the labs of the Krishnan-Ang Distinguished Scholar – Junior Group Leaders in Cancer.

The award in 2016 was given to Dr Mona Shehata, who conducted research into the cell origin of breast cancer. Dr Shehata, on completion of her post, is currently working as Associate Principal Scientist at Astra Zeneca in Cambridge.
