Studentships for Overseas Students undertaking a PhD in the Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge

The Krishnan-Ang Studentships for Overseas Students in the Natural Sciences are intended to support outstanding overseas (outside the UK and EU) graduate candidates undertaking a PhD in the Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. The studentships are awarded solely on the basis of academic merit.

Eligible candidates must have applied for admission, or already have an offer of admission, to a PhD degree in the field of Natural Sciences and not yet have been a graduate or undergraduate student in the University of Cambridge.

The Studentships may be held for a maximum of three and a half years, subject to satisfactory academic progress. The awards will cover graduate course fees at the Overseas rate and include a generous maintenance allowance. The value of these awards will vary to take into account the circumstances and fee liability of the successful candidates, who will become members of Trinity College on taking up the Studentship.

Why be a Krishnan-Ang Student?

The Krishnan-Ang Studentship includes a comprehensive financial package which covers all tuition fees and reasonable living costs associated with studying for a doctoral degree at the University of Cambridge. In addition, our objective is support our students holistically and we hope to augment their experience in a variety of ways:

Network

Graduates from the Krishnan-Ang studentship program now constitute a cohort of over 30 individuals working at premier academic, corporate and governmental institutions around the world. Their areas of interest span a broad range of disciplines, ranging from chemical engineering and quantum cryptography through to cancer biology and epidemiological studies. As a graduate of the Krishnan-Ang program, you will have access to this diverse group who could potentially prove a valuable resource as you navigate your future career.

Community

At any given point, about 8 Krishnan-Ang students would actively be in the program and in residence at Cambridge. The value of this community of highly accomplished, like-minded, international students was never more apparent than during COVID lock-downs. Our students were able to connect with others experiencing many of the same issues, isolated far from home in the middle of a pandemic, providing much-needed mutual support in a trying time. Today, the community meets regularly in person, allowing students to discuss various aspects of life in Cambridge outside the traditional departmental and collegiate structures of the university.

Mentorship

Krishnan-Ang students will be mentored by Senior Fellow and Trinity Vice-Master, Prof. Grae Worster. Prof. Worster is an exceptional academic and has extensive experience with graduate students. His care and guidance will prove a valuable resource as you proceed through your PhD and consider future career options.

Gatherings

We organize gatherings in Cambridge and in London to have all our students, past and present, meet each other and us. These gatherings are of both a social and academic nature, often with students presenting a short summary of their work. This also gives us an opportunity to learn more about the various interesting research projects and allows for the cross-pollination of ideas between students.
