We have donated £1.25 million via Cancer Research UK to help fund the Francis Crick Institute.  A portion of the proceeds were used towards the “Create the Change campaign” to fund the construction of the institute and a portion was used towards the Ideas 2 Innovation fund for translation.

The Krishnan-Ang Laboratory at the Francis Crick Institute supports Professor Simon Boulton and his team.  Professor Boulton is a world-leading expert in DNA damage repair and a founder of the Crick spin-out company Artios.  His work continues to focus on understanding how failures in the mechanisms cells use to repair their DNA lead to cancer and other diseases.  Recently his work has driven forward our understanding of how structures called telomeres protect and maintain our DNA.

At both the Francis Crick Institute and Cancer Research UK, scientists have always been encouraged to translate their research into the medicines and diagnostics of tomorrow.  This is then "translated" into benefits for people with cancer such as new ways to detect, monitor and treat the disease.
